The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and its lethal end-stage, Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), are referred to as the "Scourge of Our Time," and awareness of their effects and implications fills many with dread. The lifespan of those who are infected has increased by decades due to new medications, shifting HIV from an acute deadly sickness to a chronic condition requiring care and monitoring. As healthcare practitioners, we must stay up to date on new information about HIV, its effects, transmission, treatment, and the best care for HIV victims who proceed to the last stage of AIDS in order to help individuals affected live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

This specialized clinical course prepares Medical Assistant students to master the technical and procedural skills required to perform standard 12-lead electrocardiograms (EKG) within outpatient and ambulatory care environments.
Blending interactive theory with intensive hands-on laboratory practice, the curriculum focuses on delivering patient-centered care while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality control, and clinical precision.


This hybrid technical-procedural training course is designed to equip students with the essential theoretical knowledge and hands-on manual skills required to perform standard 12-lead electrocardiograms (EKG) with the highest standards of safety, quality, and clinical precision. The curriculum focuses strictly on operations and quality control: students will learn how to properly prepare the patient, identify surface anatomy landmarks, classify and
place electrodes with anatomical accuracy, operate and calibrate the EKG machine, immediately troubleshoot technical artifacts, and validate trace integrity before delivering it to the physician for interpretation.
